We have given away almost all the bunnies now, except for a few that we want to keep. One of those is this adorable creature:
None of our rabbits are lop-ears. We used to have a lop-eared male in the playground cage, but his two babies never showed a sign of having hanging ears. This little one is no relation, so the loppy ear must be some sort of fluke – maybe weak ear muscles or even some type of mutation? Anyway it’s really cute! I was really hoping for this one to be a girl. And she is! I have called her Pikachu. I mean, I had to. Look at those ears! The plan is for her to live in the rabbit cage in the playground this year with Paspas, an older, neutered male who lived there already last year.
This is Pikachu investigating a peahen – something that she came to regret later on 🙂
Boaz, the handicapped duck, seems to have experienced some sort of miracle. When S. got him, his entire foot curled backwards and he limped badly. When I got back from holiday, I looked for the duckling with the twisted leg, and found only one with inward-curling toes. Sometimes the foot bent double, sometimes it straightened out. I left it another couple of days – and see what happened. The foot has straightened itself!
I have honestly no clue how this happened. Boaz walks perfectly normal now, as if there was never anything wrong with his foot. I don’t know whether this was always going to happen, or if something here helped him. Maybe he was hurt, not handicapped, and it has healed now. Maybe the swimming and good food helped him. I really don’t know!
I also have a strong suspicion that Boaz is actually a girl. She seems smaller and more delicate than the other two ducklings. If that is really the case, we will have to rename her. I mean, you can’t saddle a girl with a name like Boaz. I am strongly leaning towards Psyduck, in keeping with the Pokemon theme, but there is resistance 🙂
Yesterday was pond cleaning day, which means hysterically happy ducks and chickens and guineas gorging themselves on bloodworms (fly larvae). This is the way to get your ducks in a row!
Great day to all of you! X
