More Bird Talk

Joy!! I thought the woodpeckers had been chased away by the rose-ringed parakeets and were not nesting in our tree this spring. But it seems I was wrong! They were just being very quiet. But that’s all over now, because the chicks have hatched and are making a loud, drawn-out high-pitched squeeking noise. The parents are flying back and forth with bugs and are hammering at the tree again.

They are Syrian woodpeckers, a native species. Love to see them back!! 💚

We also saw a family of Egyptian geese when taking a boat trip on the Yarkon river. The goslings looked newly hatched. So cute and beautiful!
The Egyptian goose is quite common all over Africa, but is not seen that often in Israel. This is only the second time I’ve seen them. They are such pretty birds! 💙
